About FME Course

Overview

This course introduces the essential components and capabilities of FME (45 days course)  , which includes extensive hands-on and problem-solving exercises.  

Through this course, you will learn what FME is, how it works, how to accomplish basic data translation and transformation, and how to set up your FME workflows following best practices.


By the end of the course, you will be ready to create workspaces or automation using FME as per project requirement and also you are able to complete your FME certification.

Steps to Certification

1) Complete training on FME Desktop.
2) Complete The Exam 
Prior to submitting your application, you must fill out the FME Certification Exam. To pass the exam, you will need to achieve at least 75%.

3) Submit Your Application :

Once you’ve completed the exam and have a grade of 75% or higher, you are ready to submit your application. Before submitting your application, please review the sample documentation.

Your application must include:

  • 2-3 workspaces from projects which conform to FME best practices as outlined in FME Desktop Basic Best Practice section. Your sample projects should demonstrate an advanced level of FME expertise. Any related files or information should be provided just as if you were delivering a solution to a client. 
  • Source data or output data is not required for your sample projects.
  • Workspace documentation in a PDF, Word document, or Text file. Here is an example of workspace documentation
  • References from 2 clients whose projects you’ve been involved with within the last two years.
  • All parts of your application must be in English with the exception of your workspaces.
Note

The application process can take up to 3 weeks. Once they have received your completed exam, spoken to your references, and have reviewed your sample projects, they will contact you about the status of your certification.

Activating a Single-Fixed License

If we have a serial number and an Internet connection, follow these steps to activate a fixed license from Safe Software.

Note: If we already have a licensed installation, we will be prompted to update it.

  1. From the Windows Start menu, click Programs> FMEDesktop> Utilities > FME Licensing Assistant.

  2. The FME Licensing Assistant opens.

  3. Select Activate a single-fixed license. Enter the Serial Number in the corresponding field, and click Activate.

    4. Click Finish.

    We will see a confirmation message when FME Desktop is successfully licensed.

    Connect to the Floating License Server

    To borrow a license, you first need to connect to a floating license server. (Please see your System Administrator if you do not know the server name.)

    1. Open the FME Desktop Licensing Assistant by clicking Start >Programs > FME Desktop > Utilities > FME Licensing Assistant.

    2. Select Connect to a floating license server.In the Server Name field, enter the name of the floating license server.

    3. Click Next.


      4. Select the license type from the list, and click Activate.




      5. ClickFinish.



To borrow the license for offline use, we will have to start FME Work- bench and specify the terms of the license. See "Specify the Terms of the License" below.

Specify the Terms of the License

To access the License Borrowing option, start FME Workbench:

  1. Click Start> Programs> FMEDesktop> FMEWorkbench.

  2. Click Tools>License Borrowing.

  3. Click Yes, borrow a license for,and then enter or adjust the number of days. Click OK to close the dialog.



  4. ClickOK.



    We have successfully borrowed the floating license for the specified number of days.

To run FME Desktop during this time frame, we do not need to be connected to the license server.

Return the License

To return a borrowed license before the time expires:

1. Start Workbench.

2. Click Tools > License Borrowing.

3. On the License Borrowing pane, select Yes, return the borrowed license early. Click OK.



4. Click OK.


The license is now available for other FME Desktop users to borrow.

Note: We cannot change or update licenses when we have borrowed a floating license. We need to return a borrowed license first.
